Another day, another park

We went to West Bank park last weekend. It is wonderful place and the last kind of place you would expect so close to a city. 

Below, you can see how for a second we thought we were back in the states driving coast to coast! 

Any visit to a park is not complete without a play on the swings and driving a (a rather battered) truck 

After our lovely time outdoors we visited Helen and Michael - thanks for the tea and lovely ginger biscuits - even though Della was snotty and sleepy! 

Happy St Valentines Day

Valentines day may be a reason for some people to go out and spend money proving they love someone - well not in this house. We see it as an opportunity to make something for someone we love and Della has taken this tradition to her heart too this year. 

Firstly she made biscuits at nursery. Her carers there commented that she must do lots of baking at home (she certainly does!!) as she was very good at using the cookie cutters and had lots of patience, being the only child who wasn't distracted by toys and wanted to make sure she stayed baking until the job was done properly! Della could be the next Jamie Oliver or Delia Smith. We have been talking about Gordon Lamsey ever since she was born.

This is also the scene on our mantal piece at the minute. Hand made cards of love ahoy!

How to make cheese scones with a child

First, make sure said child has a pinny on, it's going to get messy. Stand them on a chair close to the bench and give them a spoon and pre rubbed in butter and flour in a plastic bowl. 

After adding egg, milk and cheese get child to roll out the dough. 

When rolled get child to press dough into scone shapes

 After cutting get child to place on a greased baking sheet.

Get child to rub milk on cut scones and put cheese on the top - allow them to eat the cheese should they desire. 

Get child to carry scones to the oven - supporting the tray if needed. 

Make sure the child does not go too near the oven but let them have a look at their scones getting bigger and browner.

Make sure child washes up.

Let child touch scones when they are cooked. Remind them about things that are hot!

After cooking and cooling get child to make their own plate of lunch.

Sit child down at the table and enjoy what they have baked for you.
